The Frighteners (1996): Before he was all about Bilbos, Smaugs, and evil rings, Peter Jackson made a name for himself with the dark puppet satire Meet the Feebles and the comedic gore-fest Dead Alive. It's so awesome that a certain IGN writer *cough* may have named his son Ash because of it. ![]() Comedy Horror Evil Dead 2 (1987): The film that launched a thousand "Groovy"s, Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn is a lovingly splatter-ific retelling of Sam Raimi's original Evil Dead film - this time with a marked focus on slapstick and awesome one-liners from the tale's hero, Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell). Side note: It's not on Netflix, but you also can't go wrong with the American remake Let Me In, which doesn't improve on the original but is one of the rare quality remakes that's able to stand on its own. Let the Right One In (2008): Based on the 2004 novel, this Swedish vampire film is a modern masterwork - detailing the dark, moody story of a bullied 12-year-old boy who develops a friendship with a vampire child. Modern Mayhem You're Next (2013): As one of the strongest entries in the home invasion genre in a long while, You're Next plays as horror, thriller, and mystery as family reunion is brutally interrupted by three men in animal masks.
